Prima Amazonia
Recordist/Credit: David Monacchi
Located on an Amazon tributary about 70 miles (112km) to
the northwest of Manaus this remote sonic portrait was recorded by David
Monacchi and represents the rich diversity and density still present in
undisturbed equatorial rain forests. Recorded at the onset of the rainy season
and beginning 2 hours after sunset, these recordings represent a 24 hour cycle
of events in a flooded, terrestrial, and riparian forest. It takes enormous
patience and dedication to capture these soundscapes wherever they exist and the
process is not without certain danger. It is also difficult to find places where
these pristine expressions of the natural world can still be found. This is an
enchanted unaltered and unmixed example of one of them.
